Construction

The construction began as soon as the snow melted, at the end of April 2007. The excavation and concrete work were completed in two weeks. Next, I spent a few days welding and painting the support columns. The floor system was built in one week and then I spent a couple of days milling the wall packages. With the help of two additional men and a construction lift, all of the walls were up within one week. The roof took two weeks to frame, insulate, trim, and dry in with Ice & Water Shield. In mid-July, the construction rate slowed down while we waited for the subcontractors to finish their work and for materials to arrive. By the end of August, the exterior was complete, the windows were in, and the metal roof was on. During September, the electrical system, radiant hydronic heating system, and concrete slab were finished. The interior was drywalled during October. Interior finishing, trim carpentry, and painting began in November and my Folks moved in just before Christmas. The entire construction process took just under 8 months.
