My design process applies the combination of passive or "common sense" strategies with technological strategies. Computer design software, perhaps the most powerful technological tool that I utilize in my practice, allows me to create, draw, assess, and revise my ideas. Complete design models allow the client to see the structure before it is built, answering questions and eliminating suspicion.

My design process focuses on efficiency during the build process. The exact construction plan and material lists are used to organize finances, efficiently use materials, and reduce total labor time and cost. Because of Montana's long winter and short summer, the small window of opportunity to build during good weather must be carefully and fully exploited. My design-build strategy allows me to efficiently manage time by ironing out the construction details during the winter and building during the late spring, summer and fall.
