Foundation
The original brick and fieldstone foundation was crumbling and structurally unsound. The mortar was rotten, allowing to rain run into the basement. Due to the the steep slope of Walnut Street, the building was falling downhill. During the demolition, the 600 square-foot foundation was preserved and reinforced with new concrete. The dirt basement floor was lined with crushed rock and concrete pads were poured to support the vertical load-bearing columns. The preservation of the foundation allowed us to comply with the city building codes and also helped the contractor to stay within budget.
